Biography of Douglas M. Jones

Douglas M. (Doug) Jones was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the thirteenth generation of his family to be born there. He is the son of the late Gerald L. Jones and the late Jacqueline C. Martin, he has a brother, Dennis Lee Jones and a sister, Diane Marie Ritter. He graduated from Mayme S. Waggener High School in Louisville, KY in 1976.
He attended the University of Louisville earning a Bachelor of Science (Business Option) and graduated in 1986. He then worked for Celanese Corporation, SCM/Sylvachem, Southern Coatings and Valspar corporation prior to establishing his own business, Computer Upgraders in 1994.
In addition, Doug has served, or is serving, on numerous other community, civic and business Boards and Committees. He is an Eagle Scout. An avid sports fan, he supports the South Carolina Gamecocks, where he attended his MBA classes. However, he is still a Louisville Cardinals basketball fan at heart. He plays nearly every stringed instrument and has performed in numerous bands for over 40 years. He has an extensive collection of classic Fender and Gibson guitars and unique musical instruments.
Doug was initiated into Sumter, South Carolina, Lodge #855 in December 1999. He has served on numerous Committees, including the House Committee and Board of Trustees, advanced through the Officer Chairs, and served as Exalted Ruler in 2004-2005. A former Officer of the Year, he is an Honorary Life Member, and remains active in the Lodge.
At the State Level, Doug became active with the South Carolina Elks Association with his appointment as Association Web Master. He created the first web site for a State Association in 2000. He served as State Tiler, Chaplain and Inner Guard. He served as Chairman or Co-Chairman for a number of South Carolina Elks Association committees.
He is currently, Vice President of the Southeast District of South Carolina. He has been recognized by the Association as Officer of the Year, won both the Eleven O’clock Toast Contests, competed seven times in the Grand Lodge Ritualistic contests and holds a High Point Officer award. He served as Esteemed Leading Knight on Sumter Lodge’s National Championship Team in 2003-2004. Doug is a member of the South Carolina Hall of Fame and is currently Membership Chairman for the SCEA.
At the Grand Lodge Level, Doug has served as District Deputy for the South East District of South Carolina in 2011 -2012 and is a Certified Ritual Judge. He has judged state contests both Florida and Georgia. In 2014, he was appointed to the Ritualistic Committee, representing Area 3, an experience that introduced him to, and allowed him to work with, many Lodges and Elk members throughout the Southeastern United States, as well as other areas of the Country.
Doug married his high school sweetheart, Whitney K. Westfall, on June 7, 2014, and they are now celebrating 3 wonderful and eventful years together. Doug and Whitney have two Pugs, Charlie and Daisy and two cats, Stella and Dolly.
