So long as there are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks will never forget them.
|
A message from Fred Thompson, Chairman, South Carolina State Elks Veterans Committee It is my honor to work with the Local Lodge Veterans Committees. The programs that are in place, and those Lodges who have started new Veterans programs, are very creative. Please keep up the GREAT work that you do. We must NEVER forget the sacrifice that our veterans have made so that we might have our freedoms. Not just on Memorial Day or Veterans Day, but EVERYDAY of the year these men and women should be in our thoughts! For many, it is the coming home, not the fighting, that is the toughest part. Those returning with physical and/or behavioral ailments must know that they will never be forgotten. Suicide or homelessness cannot be the result of their courage. Thank you for your service to our Veterans. If your Lodge does not have an active Veterans Committee, please contact me. PLEASE, do not restrict the size of your Veterans Committee. The more members, the better!!! I look forward to receiving nominations for Veteran Volunteer of the Year Award (Male and Female). Exalted Rulers, PLEASE have your nominations to me by January 10, 2014, so that they may be assessed and sent on to the Elks National Veterans Service Commission office in Chicago for review. Fraternally, Fred Thompson
